Community Food Systems Conference:

"Sustaining Farms and People in the Emerging Economy"

Mark your calendars: UC SAREP, along with the Community Alliance with Family Farmers, the national Community Food Security Coalition, and the California Communities Program at UC Davis will host a conference Oct. 2-3, 1996 at UC Davis to consider the role of community food systems in relation to the global food economy and the movement for sustainable communities. Panel sessions will showcase innovative community food system projects across California, build bridges of cooperation among these allies, and share methods for developing a community food system. Pulitzer-prize winning poet Gary Snyder will read his poetry at a luncheon featuring local foods. Keynote speakers include Daniel Kemmis, Mayor of Missoula, Mont. and author of The Good City and the Good Life: Renewing the Sense of Community; and Joan Gussow, professor emeritus, Teacher's College, Columbia University and author of Chicken Little, Tomato Sauce and Agriculture:Who Will Produce Tomorrow's Food?
