UC Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education Program

September 1998

Sustainable Ag Grants Available

The systemwide UC Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education Program (SAREP) housed at UC Davis has released two requests for proposals (RFPs) for educational events and graduate students.

The RFP for educational events supports workshops, field days, symposia, seminars, and other events which would take place between January 1 and December 31, 1999. Awards are limited to $1,000 per event. A separate RFP is available for graduate students at any accredited institution of higher learning in California to support their research projects. Awards for graduate students are $2,000 per individual.

Proposals will be accepted on a broad range of topics. SAREP is particularly interested in proposals that address the sustainability of crop and livestock systems or the relationship between sustainable agriculture and the economic and social dynamics of the broader food system. Proposals for both the educational events and the graduate awards RFPs are due to SAREP by November 6, 1998. Funds will be available in January 1999. More information and copies of the RFPs are available on SAREP’s web page at http://www.sarep.ucdavis.edu/grants/request.htm

SAREP is scheduled to release two additional RFPs later in the fall:

  • Research and Education Grants for crop and livestock production, community development, and public policy (typical awards of $5,000 - $20,000 per year)
  • Grants for Biologically Integrated Farming Systems (BIFS) Projects (large, collaborative projects; typical awards $50,000 - $100,000 per year)
