The number of farmers' markets has increased dramatically in the last few decades. Today, California hosts more than 350 markets. Since 1998, SAREP has been part of a tri-state study (with Iowa and New York) to look at how farmers markets encourage rural enterprises and entrepreneurship for farm, food processing and craft businesses. Surveys of market managers and market vendors identify successful strategies farmers use to add value to their products.
