Partnerships for Sustaining California Agriculture: Profit, Environment, and Community

A major public forum Partnerships for Sustaining California Agriculture: Profit, Environment, and Community is scheduled March 27-28, 2001 at the Heidrick Ag History Center in Woodland, Calif. The conference will highlight innovations in agricultural production, research and extension, featuring farmer groups and leaders implementing "win-win" practices that are profitable as well as environmentally friendly. This event will be of interest to farmers, individuals from the agriculture and food industry, farm advisors and extensionists, scientists, agency representatives, policy makers, and the media.

Presenters from diverse backgrounds working in a variety of crop and livestock commodities will identify successful approaches to developing profitable, resource-conserving farming systems. Participants will also have the opportunity to interact with farmers, scientists, farm advisors, industry personnel, and government agencies involved in sustainable agriculture; work in groups to address ways to increase participation in biologically integrated farming systems; and increase their knowledge and awareness of innovative farming and ranching systems in California.

A variety of activities are being planned to meet these objectives including plenary presentations, panel discussions, and practical hands-on workshops. Conference topics include:
  • reduced-risk production practices
  • marketing issues in biological farming
  • soil fertility and management
  • bridging environmental, agricultural and social interests
  • current policy issues
  • partnership approaches
  • project evaluation and monitoring
  • funding opportunities

An evening reception and poster session featuring innovative research and extension activities around the state will take place March 27 in the Heidrick Ag Center, featuring fresh local foods, and California specialty wines.

The conference registration fee is $125 for the two days, and covers morning and afternoon refreshments, lunch, evening reception, and conference packet and proceedings. Space is limited so early registration is recommended.
